Three Teams, One Club: Blazers Enter the 2026/27 Season

Two seasons ago Blazers Badminton Club entered the Gloucestershire County League with a single team and a squad that could be counted on two hands. This month we begin the 2026/27 season with three teams, our first junior side, and two squads competing at the highest level the club has yet reached.

Two teams in Division 3

Last season both Blazers 1 and Blazers 2 played in Division 4 of the Open Doubles League. This year both step up to Division 3, where they will share a division with Allseasons 1, Tetbury 1, Hatherley 2 and Pittville 4.

Sharing a division brings a twist. Blazers 1 and Blazers 2 will face each other twice, home and away, in what promises to be the most talked-about fixtures of our season. Both sides train together on Wednesday nights, so there will be no hiding place and no excuses.

Blazers 1 will be captained by Dattu, who also serves as the club's welfare officer and is a Badminton England Level 2 registered coach. Rob takes charge of Blazers 2.

Juniors take the court

For the first time in the club's history, Blazers 3 enters the league as a junior side, competing in Division 6 of the Open Doubles League. Sujith captains the team, with home fixtures played on Saturdays at Chosen Hill so that our young players can compete without late midweek nights.

Bringing juniors into the club has meant a good deal of work behind the scenes on safeguarding, welfare and parental consent, and we are grateful to the committee members who have carried that through over the summer.

A new shape to the week

The league season runs from 21 September 2026 to 25 March 2027. Wednesday evenings at Chosen Hill are now dedicated to league training and home fixtures. Friday nights, 8pm to 10pm, are our open club night, where members of all standards play together and where new players are always welcome to come and try us out.

Monthly internal tournaments will continue on the last club night of each month, and the annual Blazers Club Tournament returns in November.
